Measurements and clearance, briefly

Use the real footprint. Measure what touches or blocks the ground: a tent’s staked-out size, a canopy’s leg base, a car with mirrors, a trailer including its hitch.

Solid vs. overhead. Vehicles, tents and coolers are solid. Canopy roofs and awnings are overhead cover, so furniture can go under them.

Walking room is your call. Set your own walkway target (3 ft by default). FestivalPlot warns when vehicles, campers or tents are closer than that. It is a planning aid, not a campground rule.

How to measure your gear

Before you go

  • Confirm your site size and rules from the official source.
  • Check where vehicles must park and whether canopies may overhang.
  • Leave room for doors, tailgates, stakes and guylines.
  • Plan for slope, shade and where rain will run.

Common questions

Do I need an account?

No. FestivalPlot works in your browser with no sign-up. Your layouts are saved on your own device in browser storage, and you can delete them at any time.

Are the example campsite sizes official?

No. The 20 × 20 ft and 18 × 40 ft layouts are illustrative examples. Check your festival or campground’s current official information for the real size of your site.

How accurate is the layout check?

Items are drawn to scale and the overlap math accounts for rotation. But it is a 2D plan: it cannot see slopes, trees, height limits, or local rules. Use it to plan, then confirm on site.

Why is a table under my canopy not a conflict?

Canopies and awnings are marked as overhead cover. Tables, chairs and gear can sit underneath them. Two solid items, like a car and a tent, can’t share the same ground, so that is flagged.

Who can see a layout I share?

Anyone who has the link. The layout is stored inside the link itself, so it isn’t uploaded to FestivalPlot, but anyone you send it to (or who they forward it to) can open it.

Can I use meters?

Yes. Switch between feet and meters in the campsite settings. Measurements convert exactly.
